v Being consistently and constantly productive.

v Push and challenge yourself artistically.

Grading

You will be graded for the work & effort produced in this class. 60 % of your grade will be from the projects you produce, this includes assignments, drawing outside class and sketchbook. 20% will be your participation. 20% will be from gallery visit and final critique.
Late work
Late work will suffer anywhere from a 10%-100% loss of value. Work more than one week late may not be accepted.

Should you be absent (excused only) the day something is due, it is expected that it will be ready immediately upon your return the following class.

In this classroom, you are expected to behave as a respectful, responsible individual. You are also expected to have fun. I will expect to see you push and challenge yourself rather than fall back on what comes easy to you or what has been successful in the past.

Food for thought….

Work hard, keep up with the pace of the class.

Don’t procrastinate.

Work at home.

Remember you’re in this class because you love art.

Keep a journal to help remember ideas, make sketches.

Don’t give up, you will progress.

You will be expected to produce art while you are in this class. You will be expected to keep a sketchbook at all times failure to do so will result in the loss of participation points. You will be expected to complete drawings outside of class. You will be expected to visit art galleries.

The public wants to understand and learn in a single day, a single minute, what the artist has spent years learning. Paul Gauguin 1848 - 1903

You are required to keep a sketchbook throughout the duration of this class. You should have one already from art one, but if you don't go to the art store and purchase a 9 X 12 inch sketchbook. The purpose of this sketchbook is to record your visual thoughts, work through ideas, brainstorm or just doodle. I would also like to see evidence of ‘process’ for your outside class drawings.

Just in case you don’t have a sketchbook here’s what you need:

9x12 in size (plain white paper not lined)
Drawing pencil 4B and kneaded eraser, graphite stick
Always bring your sketchbook with you to class – you will lose participation points if you don’t.

Gallery Visit on your own
A portion of your grade for this class constists of a gallery visit. This will be due at the end of the first term. The gallery visit is simple a report on a gallery or museum show that you visited sometime during the first term. We will be going on a field trip to the SFMOMA in the spring or fall and that will NOT count. The purpose of this assignment is to have you experience art outside of the classroom and to see what practicing artists within your own community are doing. The shows you choose to write about can be of any media and from any gallery or museum.

Requirements for Gallery Reports ( 1 each semester) :

Each report must be 1-2 page typed pages, handwritten reports will not be accepted.
Describe the work in the gallery and write your own reaction to it.
Include any promotional material from the show you are reviewing – postcards, etc.
